The return of beach volleyball star Misty May-Treanor will highlight a full weekend of beach volleyball action at Alamitos Beach & Marina Green Park Saturday and Sunday, July 24 and 25. May-Treanor, beach volleyball’s all-time winningest player who starred at Long Beach State University, will compete in the AVP NIVEA Tour Long Beach Open, presented by Malibu Rum, at Marina Green Park. The tournament, a 2010 Long Beach Festival event, will feature 16 teams of each gender competing in a two-day main draw. The weekend also includes the 4th Annual Sinjin Collegiate Open Beach Volleyball Championship, presented by beach volleyball legend Sinjin Smith on Saturday and Sunday, and the USAV Beach High Performance Championships, Thursday through Sunday. AVP NIVEA Tour Long Beach Open competition begins at 9 a.m. through approximately 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, with the men’s final at 1 p.m. and women’s final at 3 p.m. Sunday’s 4’s competition, featuring the return of Gabrielle Reece, includes semifinals at 9 a.m. and finals at 11 a.m. General admission is free to the tournament, which also includes a beer garden and sponsor village. Tournament information, as well as Courtside and AVP Club tickets, is available at www.avp.com.
