Long Beach to Catalina and Back Waterski Race Takes Place July 17 PDF Print E-mail

An anticipated 80 boats and skiers – including 20 from Australia – will compete in the 62nd Annual Catalina Ski Race on Saturday, July 17.
The race – from Long Beach Harbor to Catalina and back to the finish just off the Queen Mary – is a 62-mile round trip that will include skiers hitting speeds of up to 70 mph.  The race record, set last year, is 50 minutes, 23 seconds. The women’s record is 54 minutes.
Entries include a 12-year-old boy and Miss Teen Australia, part of the contingent from “down under.â€

The race, a 2010 Long Beach Sea Festival event sponsored by GT Performance and supported by the Port of Long Beach, begins with a parade of boats beginning at approximately 7:30 a.m., with the race starting at 9 a.m.  For more information about the 62nd Annual Catalina Ski Race, visit www.catalinaskirace.net.
